Push America's Circle of Giving Grant

In mid-2008 the Gamma Phi chapter of Pi Kappa Phi partnered with the Children's Rehabilitation Engineering Team of Mobile, AL (CRET). Through the CRET board we have been able assist with several local community service projects.

Gamma Phi's official partnership with CRET gives us special consideration with Push America.  A percent of all the money we raise for Push will be given directly to CRET.

In November, 2008, Gamma Phi was able to present CRET with a check for $300.  With this money we were able to purchase an AmTrykeŽ therapeutic tricycle, for a four-year-old girl named Kerston.  Kerston has Spina bifida and is deaf.

On Dec 9, 2008 brothers David Buster and Andrew Schneider met at Alabama Dept of Rehab services to assemble several AmTrykes. Then on Dec 17, 2008 brothers met at Children's Rehab Center and presented the bikes to the kids. Kerston enjoyed the tryke and loved getting to know the brothers. She enjoyed teaching some sign language to the guys. Pi Kapps took Kerston and her mom on a little trip down to a park near the facility. She definitely had the guys wrapped around her finger.

This tryke was presented in time for Christmas, giving her the joy and freedom of riding a bike. (see pictures at http://www.pikappaphifraternity.com/pictures/546)

CRET is partnered with Ambucs which allows them to purchase the tricyles at a discount.  Amazingly, these specially-adapted tricycles only cost between $165 and $499, depending on size and adaptations.

If any brother or alumni want to sponsor a child's tricycle contact brother Robert Perry at perry1272@bellsouth.net or call Lori Montgomery @ 251-479-8611. Your donation will be tax deductable.
