On Sunday morning August 17, 2008 sixteen Pi Kapps and Associate Members built a wheelchair ramp for Willie, a paraplegic young man in Prichard, AL. Susan Polizzi with Individual & Family Support helped the chapter organize the service project. Push America chairman Andrew Schneider planned the event.
It was a beautiful day and the day started off great, all the guys pitching in to cut down a tree, dig post holes, move lumber and nail boards in place. Then it happened!
"Where's all that water coming from?" While digging a post hole, the septic tank feeder line was broken. What started as a 5 hour project turned into a 9 hour ordeal. The septic line had to be fixed and the ramp had to be re-routed. But the Pi Kapps took it all in stride.
Since we had a few guests with us, we took them back to USA while the rest of the guys finished the job. No lunch, in the heat and stench, the guys persevered. The project finally wrapped around 6pm.
Nobody said community service was easy, but the rewards were great. Several potential members joined us for the day and one of them commented how the event helped them get to know the guys and allowed them to see the brothers interact with each other.

Watch the video. Pi Kapps are making stuff happen; they are not sitting around "waiting for the world to change".
