You selected: "My son wants to join a fraternity, but I am skeptical about it."
Don't be skeptical - be open-minded!
You certainly have heard all the stories in the news. "Fraternity Member rapes Girl"; "Fraternity Member kills 3 People driving drunk"; "Fraternity Member dies from Alcohol poisoning". The truth is, these things happen. However, they happen outside fraternities just as often as within them, but the media loves to have a story with a negative bias, and it's easy to write bad about fraternities because there have been some things in the past, and, in some cases, even in the present, that give fraternities a bad image such as "hazing accidents".
However, the reality at Pi Kappa Phi's Gamma Phi Chapter is very different. We are a group of closely knit young men who enjoy the benefits of a strong brotherhood and who learn leadership through service to the community. If your son would like to join a fraternity, you should give him a chance, because in most cases, he and you will not regret this decision.
You should especially support him if he wants to join Pi Kappa Phi.
Pi Kappa Phi is America's Leading Fraternity and the #1 in making young men the leaders of today and tomorrow. Through extensive leadership programs like "The Journey", your son will have the opportunity to attend Stephen Covey Leadership Conferences and Seminars with Fortune 100 Trainers that will do anything they can to help him become a leader.
Probably even more important than The Journey is the brotherhood within Pi Kappa Phi.
Our fraternity is nationwide, which means that wherever you want to go, you'll find a Pi Kappa Chapter (the author of this web site went to California for Spring Break and lived in 5 different chapters in L.A. for a week...a sensational experience). Also, we don't haze. When you see your son, he won't have broken bones and red marks from slaps in his face, but you'll see a smiling boy who enjoys his time in college more than most college students.
And if you are afraid that joining a fraternity will lower your son's grades - think again.
- Studies have shown that fraternity men are 30% more likely to graduate from college than males who did not rush a fraternity.
- The GPA of Pi Kappa Phi's Gamma Phi Chapter at the University of South Alabama has continuously been higher than the all-men's GPA and ranks within the highest of all fraternities on campus.
- The national organization of Pi Kappa Phi encourages high academic performance by awarding scholarships to academically bright undergraduate students every year.
