History - Pi Kappa Phi National

Friendship.

The story of Pi Kappa Phi begins with friendship.

The year was 1904.  Three young men in their late teens at the College of Charleston in South Carolina forged a friendship that laid the foundation for what would become Pi Kappa Phi fraternity.

Andrew Alexander Kroeg Jr., Simon Fogarty Jr., and L. Harry Mixson are forever remembered by Pi Kapps the world over as the Founding Fathers of Pi Kappa Phi.

Brought together by a common goal, these men soon realized they possessed the skills, desire and friendship to create something of lasting value.  On December 10, the men met together at Simon's home at 90 Broad Street to found a fraternity.  Thus began our rich tradition built upon the foundations of brotherhood and excellence.

Soon Pi Kappa Phi chapters were started all over the nation and by the fifth chapter Pi Kappa Phi was already transcontinental at the University of California at Berkeley.   From small beginnings, Pi Kappa Phi has grown into one of the largest and most close knit fraternities in America thanks to the work of its many strong leaders. Today, Pi Kappa Phi stands today as you see it: one of the strongest fraternities bound together by unending ties of brotherhood. Sixty years after the fraternity formed, Pi Kappa Phi came to the University of South Alabama.  Read about our local chapter history on the Gamma Phi History page.

There is much more to the story. And the story continues today, over one hundred years later.  It can be guaranteed that the story will end where it started, with . . .

Friendship.
